“UNDERGROUND!”

I think that the best way of talking about my paintings is to pay homage to the movies, comics and music that have really influenced my life.

As a real B and Z movie addict since my earliest years I particularly remember being moved by “Blade Runner,” “Dawn of the Dead,” “Escape from NY,” “Video Drome” and “Assault on Precinct 13”. The spaghetti horror phenomenon of the eighties also marked my youth and spawned some of my other favourites such as those by the Italian master of this movement, Lucio Fulci, titled: “the Beyond” and “the House by the Cemetery.” My DVD collection is an ongoing affair encompassing also the cinema of the Far East , from Tsui Hark to Mike Takeshi.

The foundation of my sub culture is also natured by comic books such as “Heavy Metal” and “Pilote”. I was also a great fan of Enki Bilal, R Corben, Druillet, Moebius, Liberator and many others ….

Music is something I am an avid fan of, particularly industrial Techno before the infamous summer of love of 1988, e.g. Nitzer Ebb, Neon Judgement, Front 242 and Skinny Puppy…. And in Rap Donald D, early Ice T, Grand Master Flash and Africa Bombata who pioneered the crossover between Rap and Techno during the end of the nineties. I still paint listening along to new releases of House, Break Beat and Electro music.

Lost in the limbo of my imagination I have always been focusing on a certain vision of reoccurring chaos, that of; demons, gladiators, the scorched planet, zombies, cyborgs, hookers, aliens and mutants.

Frustrated by this tedious mortal life I reject this system and this world and all that is values in what to me resembles a thinly disguised dictatorship of mediocrity.

The underground is a shelter for the artistic minorities that represent the deviance of the system far from the accepted art format of the fine arts.
My painting is a hallucinated look on society and those frustrations with a generic homologated viewpoint!
